KAPCO: Building a Kimberley Aboriginal Pastoral Enterprise
KAPCO, established by KRED, professionally manages four Aboriginal-owned pastoral stations across the Kimberley, supporting sustainable and commercially focused operations.
-
Kimberley Agriculture and Pastoral Company (KAPCO) is an Aboriginal-owned pastoral management company established by KRED to bring Aboriginal-owned pastoral properties together under a professional and commercially focused management structure.
Initially bringing together Mt Anderson, Frazier Downs and Bohemia Downs, KAPCO later expanded to include Myroodah station. It now operates across four Aboriginal-owned pastoral stations in the Kimberley.
-
KRED led the planning, development and establishment of KAPCO, creating a model that enabled Aboriginal-owned pastoral properties to work together at greater commercial scale.
KRED helped develop the company’s business and governance structures and coordinated the specialist support required to establish the enterprise.
The relationship has continued as KAPCO has grown. KRED has supported strategic planning, investment and business development, helping KAPCO identify opportunities to strengthen its pastoral operations, infrastructure and Aboriginal employment.
Most recently, KRED supported KAPCO to successfully secure funding through the Remote Jobs and Economic Development Program, creating new jobs and investing further in KAPCO’s operational capacity.
-
Established KAPCO as an independent Aboriginal-owned pastoral management company.
Built a pastoral management model spanning Mt Anderson, Myroodah, Frazier Downs and Bohemia Downs.
$1.327 million secured over three years through the Remote Jobs and Economic Development Program.
Funding provides for five full-time positions, along with a vehicle, staff training and infrastructure upgrades at Myroodah.
