Ngurrara Culture, Country & Canvas
Partnering with Yanunijarra to secure funding that protects Ngurrara culture and Country.
-
KRED works with Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation to develop and secure funding for projects that protect Ngurrara cultural heritage, strengthen connection to Country and support the transfer of cultural knowledge between generations.
This partnership has secured funding across a connected program of cultural work, from the restoration and preservation of Ngurrara Canvas II and supporting families to return to Country, through to longer-term investment in Ngurrara language, stories and cultural knowledge.

KRED works closely with Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation to develop projects that respond to its priorities for protecting culture, caring for Country and passing knowledge to future generations.
The work around Ngurrara Canvas II began with its physical preservation, supporting the specialist cleaning and conservation of the Canvas, the construction of a purpose-built storage crate, and an Honouring Ceremony celebrating the Canvas and its cultural significance.
From there, the focus extended back onto Country. The Connecting to Country project supported Ngurrara families and Elders to return to Old Cherrabun Station, creating opportunities for younger generations to spend time on Country and participate in cultural activities alongside senior people.
The next stage builds on both projects, supporting a longer-term program to record and strengthen the language, stories, place names and cultural knowledge connected to Ngurrara Canvas II and Country, and creating opportunities for that knowledge to be shared between generations.
Across this work, KRED has helped Yanunijarra Aboriginal Corporation turn interconnected cultural priorities into practical projects and secure the funding required to deliver them.
